40th Year Shabbat School Celebration
40th Year Shabbat School Celebration
Let’s hear and see your reflections! On December 7 at 4:00 pm, we will look back and marvel on 40 years of our unique and amazing family cooperative Jewish education model, while envisioning our future. Will you share some reflections, recollections, photos, memories of the Shabbat School experience for you, your children, your family? Deborah and Brad (Havurah’s new Communications and Membership Coordinator) will create a short film for our celebration. You can:
- Send photos from any time in the last 40 years to brad@havurahshalom.org, or we can take your hard copy photos and use those as well.
- Email Brad to schedule a time for us to film you talking about the program. All ages of parents and children welcome. Filming starts in September.
- Send us your thoughts or memories in writing to deborah@havurahshalom.org.
- If you want to make a one minute video with your phone instead of coming in, please be in touch with Brad.
Here are some questions to consider for the interview:
- At the time, what did you find most impactful/memorable/enjoyable about your Shabbat School experience?
- Can you tell us about one activity/project/song/learning/experience that has stayed with you?
- What do you think youth gained from the whole Shabbat School experience?
- What do you think parents gained from the whole Shabbat School experience?
- How do you think our unique Shabbat School model, a family cooperative, impacts Havurah Shalom as a whole?
- Looking back, what do you feel was most important about your family’s Shabbat School time?

(No Mahjong on Sept. 1) Click here for full info on joining this group. Just for Havurah members, our Mahjong Group is a fun, social activity that builds community, encouraging new friendships and cementing old ones. And while some of us may play elsewhere as well, we all agreed that restoring its place as an ongoing congregational activity will be a good fit for Havurah and those of us who play or want to learn the game. -

During the High Holy Days we read four sections of the Torah. This series of study sessions will give us an opportunity to read the texts and explore their meanings. We will look at what our teachers before us thought of the readings, as well as investigate modern commentators. We also will come up with our own thoughts and see how we can understand the texts for our lives today. Led by David Dropkin. No experience necessary. Please join us. -
