Racial Justice
Racial Justice
The Racial Justice Committee is chaired by a coordinating committee: Jennifer Bruml, Kathy Gordon, Julia Lager-Mesulam, and Bob Brown. Please contact any of the co-chairs with questions or comments. Contact Bob Brown, who can add you to the Racial Justice Committee email list.
The committee's goals are to:
- promote equity and inclusion in our congregation
- educate ourselves and the broader Havurah community
- disseminate information about anti-racist practice to other Havurah committees
- partner with existing social and political organizations
- identify opportunities for broadening Havurah's racial justice work, with a focus on criminal justice and policing
We ground our work in the Jewish spiritual values of: Kavod (honor, dignity), Teshuva (growth and positive change), Emet (truthfulness), Ometz Lev (courage), and Anavah (humility).
You can read the charter of the Racial Justice Committee here.
Information about the Anti-Racism and Belonging Work Group can be found here.

Are you interested in learning how to chant the Torah? This beautiful, ancient system is a treat to learn, and inspiring to sing. A five-session class led by Ken Lerner will teach you everything you need in order to connect with this heritage, and become a proud “leyner” (Torah chanter). Ken has been a patient teacher of beginning Torah readers for over 30 years at Havurah, and would be happy to help you feel the satisfaction of gaining this skill. There is a minimum of three interested students to make the class a reality, and there is a limit of seven people. Please RSVP soon if you are interested, but no later than Jan. 15, 2025, and Ken will be in touch about the class. -

Monthly music jams are back! Tune your instrument, warm up your voice and head down to Havurah to jam with us. Join your fellow Havurah musicians for an evening of playing and singing together—for the joy of it! Jams are led by fellow Havurah members and are completely democratic--everyone chooses songs! Our songbook includes both Jewish and secular songs from a wide range of artists and eras. Please RSVP. -
