Directions to Havurah's Cemetery
Directions from downtown Portland to our cemetery, which is a section of the Jones Cemetery at 5656 SW Humphrey Blvd in Portland, Oregon (Southwest Hills):
- Take Highway 26 West toward Beaverton.
- Take the Sylvan Exit.
- Turn left at the light at the top of the exit ramp and cross over the freeway.
- Turn left at the second light onto SW Humphrey Blvd.
- Turn right onto SW Hewett.
- Take an immediate left into the parking lot of the Vineyard Church. As you drive up through the parking lot, the cemetery entrance will be straight ahead.
- Park in the church parking lot (except on Sunday mornings), and proceed on foot into the cemetery.
- Continue up the paved path toward the circular drive to the right. The oldest section of Havurah's cemetery is just beyond the circular drive, marked by hedges along the left and back and a wire fence on the right.
Public Transportation:
TriMet's trip planner can help you determine the best public transportation options from your location to Havurah's cemetery, which is a part of the Jones Cemetery. (The TriMet address for Havurah's cemetery is 5656 SW Humphrey Blvd, Portland, Southwest Hills, Oregon.)
Additional details on getting Havurah's cemetery via public transit:
Take TriMet bus #58, Canyon Road. Get off at the ‘Highway 26 on-ramp/SW Skyline” stop.
Get to the southeastern corner of this intersection: If you are traveling eastbound, you will already be there; if you are traveling westbound, you will have to cross over both the freeway and the road. (There are pedestrian signals for both.)
Walk south on Hewett Blvd (a little west of the eastbound bus stop; you’ll have to walk back there). Take the first left, uphill, at the sign that designates the entrance to Vineyard Church (do not be deterred by the ‘no trespassing’ sign). Be careful: there are no shoulders or sidewalks—very pedestrian-unfriendly! At the top of the short hill you will come to a large parking lot. Cross this lot to the cemetery.
(Use your own best judgment to have a safe journey; if conditions change, these directions may become out of date.)

We are excited to bring mahjong back to Havurah. It is a fun, social activity that builds community, encouraging new friendships and cementing old ones. And while some of us may play elsewhere as well, we all agreed that restoring its place as an ongoing congregational activity will be a good fit for Havurah and those of us who play or want to learn the game. So please don't hesitate to join us! -

Jewish text study is similar to tuning a radio. Each type of text—TaNaKH (Bible), Rabbinic Literature (Midrash and Talmud), Medieval Commentary (Rashi, ibn Ezra, Nachmanides) and Mystical (Kabbalistic and Hasidic)—operates on a different frequency. Each seeks to clarify what we are hearing about the world, following a set of rules. Each reads the world’s signals. We will spend two weeks tuning into specific passages from the four genres. Hebrew is not necessary for this overview , although we will read some of the “greatest hits” together in the original. Transistor radios preferred to digital, because we are all subject to static. Led by Rabbi Joey Wolf. -
