Havurah Shalom is hosting a four-session series from the Progressive Israel Network. Come learn in collaboration with representatives from five to six of the participating Progressive Israel Network organizations, including T’ruah, New Jewish Narrative, Partners for Progressive Israel, New Israel Fund, J Street, and Reconstructing Judaism.
All perspectives on Israel-Palestine, as well as all curious people, are welcomed and encouraged. Our guests will give presentations and take questions. You can register for all sessions, below, but it's okay if you can't attend all three sessions.
(Reconstructing Judaism, the central organization of the Reconstructionist movement, of which Havurah Shalom is a part, is a member of the Progressive Israel Network.)

Havurah Shalom
We are excited to bring mahjong back to Havurah. For Havurah members, this is a fun, social activity that builds community, encouraging new friendships and cementing old ones. And while some of us may play elsewhere as well, we all agreed that restoring its place as an ongoing congregational activity will be a good fit for Havurah and those of us who play or want to learn the game.

Havurah Shalom
If you want to sing out, sing out (as Cat Stevens so eloquently sang) and play together, please come to Havurah's monthly music jam.
(Note that this month's music jam, being held on April 7, is a week earlier than usual due to Pesach. And FYI—there's only one more jam for the year on May 12.)
As always, Havurahnik singers and musicians gather for the joy of making music together. Participants choose Jewish and secular songs from our notebook.
If you have time, please arrive a few minutes early to help set up chairs and music stands, and stay at the other end to help put them way. Thanks!
Click and RSVP. Hope to see you there!

Havurah Shalom
For Havurah middle and high school students!
Opportunity to fundraise to support and grow Havurah's Refugee and Immigrant Fund
Pizza - Stories - Brainstorming - Making matzah treats for Passover
Join us to learn the many ways that Havurah has been supporting immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers and how, over the last several years, we have assisted one family from Guatemala and one from Afghanistan. As the needs of refugees and immigrants grow, our congregational goal is to raise $36,000 to sustain the Refugee and Immigrant Fund at Havurah in support of these families and others who seek refuge in the Portland area.
Come hear about how the congregation does this work, how the funds would be used in the future, and brainstorm ways you could help contribute to meeting our goal. We will also make sweet matzah treats (with melted chocolate and toffee) to taste and bag up for congregants who make a donation to the fund.

(This class will now be starting on January 8.) Using an in-depth, word-by-word approach, we discover literal meaning(s), ancient layers of understanding, and our own personal interpretations that stem from the nuances of the Hebrew text. Basic Hebrew decoding skills necessary.
