Alter Rockers (those of us who just want to have fun)
This is a derivation of the Yiddish term alter kocker. Though alter kocker in no way reflects anyone in our congregation, we do have a group of Alter Rockers: Havurah members who are older, perhaps retired, no longer necessarily involved in the Jewish education and activities of children, and looking to have some fun. And even if you don’t fit into any of these categories, and want to participate, everyone is welcome! If you are interested, please contact Sarah Rosenberg to get on the email list and learn about upcoming fun.
Book Discussion Group
Led by Havurah member Marjorie Walters, Havurah's book discussion group meets every few months to discuss books of interest to Havurah members. Watch our online calendar upcoming discussions.
Lotsa Helping Hands
When a family is in need, our community goes into action. We have a Havurah group, called Havhelp, set up here. Please join our group if you're interested in helping members during difficult times. This flier describes more about how you can join this caring community. If you need help for yourself or a family member, please contact Havurah's office at 503-248-4662. And office staff member will ask you some questions and send your request for assistance to the Havurah member who manages Lotsa Helping Hands.
Please see our online calendar for our Mah Jongg game schedule and locations, or contact Gloria Halper to learn more.
Hand-Me-Down Clothes Circle
Are you looking for children’s or maternity clothes? Did you know that Havurah Shalom has some that you can borrow? The Hand-Me-Down Clothes Circle is a community collection of kids and maternity clothing that have been donated by Havurah Shalom members to share with other members. If you borrow, donate, or return anything, please contact Cindy Merrill (see membership directory for phone or email) to let her know.
