Temperature Tapestry Exhibit in Havurah Shalom Social Hall
From Havurah's Climate Action Team (HCAT): Through the rest of December, a Temperature Tapestry exhibition will hang in the social hall: bright graphs constructed of yarn with colors representing the high temperature in Portland each day of a chosen year. Looking across the decades represented by these tapestry graphs, from the 1940s to the 2020s, you will see evidence of warming weather, with earlier heat, less cold winters, and longer summers. We hope this exhibit inspires you to pay attention and take action. Read, gather and discuss, ask questions, make calls, write letters, keep the issues public. If you would also like to knit the evidence, many websites have reliable historic weather records. The opening for the exhibit will take place during Kabbalat Shabbat on December 13. Come hear from the craftspeople about the project that they have been working on for the past year and view the exhibit.

We will try to articulate what we want Chanukah to really be about for our families at this point as well as discuss the particular challenges that our diverse families face at this time of year as well. Bring your thoughts, questions, family traditions, recipes, favorite children's Chanukah books, etc. Facilitated by Deborah Eisenbach-Budner. Member and non-member parents/guardians/grandparents welcome; please RSVP by December 11.
