7:00 PM - 8:30 PMHavurah ShalomWhat happened on October 7, 2023, in the kibbutzim and towns of Israel’s Gaza Envelope, the region surrounding the Gaza Strip? What are the appropriate historical contexts for understanding the most devastating terrorist attack on Israel since its establishment and the utter failure of the institutions tasked with defending Israel’s citizens? Why did Israel respond with the massive destruction of Palestinian life and society in Gaza? Did that enhance the security of Israel’s citizens? How should we understand the unprecedented criticism of Israel that Israel’s military campaign generated?
This 5-session class taught by Joel Beinin includes weekly readings and one film. No prior knowledge of Israel/Palestine is expected. All viewpoints are welcomed. Come with open hearts and minds.
RSVPs
All are welcome. However, the class is capped at 30 participants and Havurah Shalom members are given first priority. Nonmembers, please email Rachel Pollak to be added to the wait list instead of using the form below. She will email you by Oct. 15 to let you know if there is room. Thank you for understanding.
Building Entry for Lifelong Learning Activities
For security reasons, the building always remains locked. It is the responsibility of member participants to bring the door code and use it to come inside. Since the code cannot be transmitted by email, please contact one of our staff if you don't have it yet: Rachel Pollak (503-248-4662, ext. 2) or Tara Anderson (ext. 4).
If you are not a member of Havurah, we hope you will join us for this class, but we cannot share the code with you. Your instructor will email you with instructions for entering the building a week or two before the class begins.
We also want to encourage everyone to arrive on time, particularly those who do not have a code. This will minimize disruptions for students and teachers.
Accommodations
Havurah Shalom strives to offer accessible programming and spaces to all. If a reasonable accommodation can improve your experience of this activity, please email info@havurahshalom.org.
