CANCELED: Right Where I Am: Writing for Everyone

Sunday, January 7, 2024 26 Tevet 5784

1:00 PM - 3:00 PMHavurah Shalom

This class has been indefinitely postponed. We hope to offer it at a later date.

These 8 sessions are for everyone, whether you are a new or experienced writer. Our writing will allow us to explore what’s on our minds and hearts at this moment in our lives. Are you looking back to understand where you have come from? Looking forward, imagining how your dreams may come to life in the days ahead? Looking around you at the issues of our day and the ways you wish to meet our present time? Looking inward, seeking to untangle the thoughts, feelings, and experiences you’re carrying? Writing is an excellent way to give voice to and understand our lives no matter which way your internal compass is pointing.

We will establish a safe, confidential group in which we can articulate and share without critique what’s true for each of us. We will write in whatever forms we incline towards, whether fiction, non-fiction, poetry, memoir or essay. Each session will include writing prompts to help you get started; use the prompts or use our time together to go in your own direction. Each week those who choose to may read their work aloud. It is valuable to hear other people’s stories – to expand our empathy and imagination and to help us locate our own stories. There is no goal to publicly present or to publish our work (though you may certainly do so on your own). Rather, this series is for our own explorations, insights, and sharing in a supportive community.
