John Talberth on the State of Our Forests & Tu B'Shvat Seder
Sunday, January 20, 2019 • 14 Shevat 5779
7:00 PM - 9:00 PMForest ecologist John Talberth will offer a presentation on the state of our forests and how we can help restore their health and draw down carbon at the same time. Then he'll update us on how we can support this critical initiative with specific political actions.
Following Dr. Talberth's presentation, Rabbi Benjamin and the Havurah Climate Action Team will guide us through a Tu B'Shvat seder with ritual foods, song, and potluck oneg dessert.
Dr. Talberth is President and Senior Economist at the Center for Sustainable Economy. Prior to CSE, Dr. Talberth was Senior Economist at the World Resources Institute in Washington, DC, and Sustainability Indicators Program Director at Redefining Progress in Oakland, California. He has published extensively in scientific journals on topics that include carbon and ecological footprint analysis, sustainable management of forests and farmland, ocean acidification and warming, marine dead zones, and new indicators of progress. His environmental career began by working to protect ancient forests and northern spotted owls in the late 1980s through CSE’s predecessor, Forest Conservation Council, which was based in Eugene. His most recent work has been on quantifying the climate impacts of industrial forest practices and developing policy solutions to help catalyze a transformation to climate smart alternatives.
This event is co-sponsored by Havurah Shalom, Shir Tikvah, and Kol Shalom.
