Havurahniks

Can you help out at our Purim celebration? Click here to sign up to help out!

You can sign up to volunteer as the decorations lead, costume lead, or the adult monitor of the game station (with Havurah teens helping younger kids). We'll need more Havurah teens to monitor games too! We will also need a number of door greeters (20-minute shifts) and a team to help out with clean-up after the event is over. Plus, you can sign up to bring key snack items for the potluck, including baby carrots, mini bell peppers, and tortilla chips. There's a hamantashen sign-up too (see info below on the hamantashen bake-off!). Click here to sign up to help in any of these ways!

Additionally:

Calling all Megillah leyners! If you would like to chant a few verses from the Megillah this year, please email Rabbi Benjamin at benjamin.barnett@havurahshalom.org.

Want to help put on the Purim spiel at Havurah! If you'd like to get involved in retelling the story of Esther in a play for the Havurah congregation, it is not at all too late. Check out and join the Purim Playtime class/undertaking led by Karen Polinsky!

The Great Yiddish (Hamentashen) Bake-Off

NEW!  So that we can all get a sense of how many Havurah folks are planning to bring hamantashen, please go ahead and sign up for the "baking and bringing hamantashen" volunteer slot if you're planning to do that!

Click here to sign up to bring hamantashen (and sign up to help with our Purim party in others ways too, if you'd like). Last-minute hamantashen additions also welcome at the bake-off and the Purim party, of course. The judging/tasting is set to take place at about 7 pm, and your hamantashen will be appreciated at any time.

How to Enter the Hamentashen Contest:

- Havurahniks, bring your baked hamentashen to the Havurah kitchen on the night of the celebration.

- Be sure to make and securely affix two labels for your hamentashen (one label for general use, one label for the judges). On your labels, include a list of any of the “Big 9” allergens that your hamentashen contain, including proteins derived from any of these major allergens: milk, eggs, nuts, fish, wheat, soy and sesame (and crustacean shellfish, although shellfish are already not acceptable as ingredients for Havurah potlucks due to being notably unkosher).

Hamentashen Contest Categories

- Best Traditional (mohn (poppyseed), prune, apricot)

- Best Contemporary

- Best Savory (remember: Havurah’s kitchen is pescatarian, and any fish should be kosher-ish)

- Most Original

- Best Looking

- Best Special Diet (gluten-free, low-sugar, vegan)
