Tikkun Leyl Shavuot: A Night of Multigenerational Learning and Discussion

Sunday, May 16, 2021 5 Sivan 5781

7:00 PM - 11:30 PM

Join us for a night of learning and discussion on the commemoration of receiving the Torah on Sinai.

7-8:30pm
For College & High School Students: Anti-Semitism and other issues on Campus
Facilitated by Eliana K, Ethan E., Elisabeth L. and Uma F-H
What is the experience of young Jews today, and how we can connect with older generations of Jews so that we can better learn from each other?  As we've grown up, what it means to be Jewish has become more complicated and means something different to each of us. We'll be discussing that identity and everything that comes with it.

8:30-9:30pm
From Sinai to the Present Moment
Facilitated by Cassandra Sagan
Beginning in text, we’ll play with simple storytelling exercises to explore the connection between personal insight and the revelation on Sinai.

9:30-10pm
A Musical Interlude
Some uplifting offerings from Havurah musicians.

10pm on
Subverting the Order: Knowing, Un-knowing, and Redemption in the Book of Ruth
Facilitated by Rabbi Benjamin
Ruth, the quintessential outsider, is at the very heart of our biblical lineage. Her story is one of subverting the ordered structure, and in doing so coming to know ourselves and one another in new and essential ways. We will take our time moving through the text and reflecting together on the story and its resonance in our lives. Those attending are invited to (re-)read Ruth in advance.

End time is approximate. All sessions will be in Room Aleph.
