Led by David Kertzner. The High Holidays is both a complex and simple time for our Jewish community. At our core, we reflect on the past year, open our hearts wider, and turn with intention into the coming year -- supported and sometimes burdened with family history, community history, and our engagement with the world. Writing is one way we can move through this time and, in the process, share a part of ourselves while connecting with others in our community. This workshop is for community members to uncover their personal meaning of this year’s theme at Havurah Shalom: Nishmat Kol Ḥai - The Soul of Every Living Thing. In the first two sessions, we will write in response to prompts designed to reflect on aspects of the High Holidays. In the third session, writers will share and give feedback in smaller groups. Participants might decide to produce a mini-drash that may be selected to be read at one of the High Holiday services.
