(ZM) Interfaith Alliance on Poverty First Thursday Meeting
Thursday, September 1, 2022 • 5 Elul 5782
12:00 PM - 1:00 PMRSVP via IAPWhy is public education so important in lifting children out of generational poverty? How well is Oregon meeting the needs to its students? What does the future look like? How can the Alliance get involved and what might we accomplish?
Barbara Smith Warner, retiring Oregon Representative, House District 45, Democratic Majority Leader, and former aide to Senator Ron Wyden, speaks to the Alliance on these and other critical questions? She drove the passage of the Student Success Act in 2019, securing both more stable funding and providing a framework for the future. But the dream of superior public education in our state remains unrealized, requiring action from the public as well as the new governor and the upcoming legislative session in March 2023. Smith Warner will outline the challenges and give us some guidance on ACTION that we--individuals, faith communities, and the Alliance itself--can take to press for stronger results and a path out of poverty for Oregon's disadvantaged kids.
You won't want to miss this exciting Zoom kick-off to Alliance 2022-2023, which will also feature a preview of coming attractions and important news about Alliance activities.
