Sukkot at Havurah
Sukkot & Simchat Torah at Havurah
We have a lively Sukkot and Simchat Torah planned at Havurah this year!
Sukkah Decorating on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 6:30 pm - Please join us at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 3, to decorate our new sukkah. Bring your own artwork to add to the walls if you wish! If you can join in the decorating adventure, please RSVP here.
Our new, bigger sukkah represents a significant gift of design and construction time from Tivnu, an award-winning nonprofit led by Havurah member Steven Eisenbach-Budner. Check out these photos of Tivnu students hard at work in our courtyard during the past two weeks.
Kabbalat Shabbat & Potluck Dessert Oneg, Friday, Oct. 6, 7:30 pm – Join us for a Kabbalat Shabbat Service with a Sukkot theme of welcoming the stranger. We'll have a potluck dessert oneg in the sukkah following the service, if weather allows, so please bring a dessert to share. RSVPs are welcome.
Tikkun Olam Folk Singing in the Sukkah, Sunday, Oct. 8, 3:00 pm - Join us for an afternoon with singers and musicians to sing folk songs in the sukkah! Bring your voices, your instruments and your spirit! We will have some copies of “Rise Up Singing” to guide us. Questions? Alter Rockers Happy Hour & Potluck, Tuesday, Oct. 10, 5:00 pm – The Alter Rockers, those who are retired or are contemplating retirement, or who just want to have fun, have reserved the sukkah for a happy hour. Please bring vegetarian hors d’oeuvres to share and whatever you want to drink. To RSVP, please email Sarah Rosenberg.

We will be discussing why this shabbes is called Shabbat HaGadol, and the special Haftarah, which is Malachi 3:4-24. Interestingly enough, there is no special Torah reading for what would seem like such a special occasion. In addition to Havurah Shalom, other congregations are being invited, and we may even have some folks joining us from other parts of the country and maybe the world. No prior knowledge or study is necessary. All viewpoints are welcome as we try to draw lessons from our holy books -
