Volunteer Opportunities at Havurah
Helping Out at Havurah
Interested in helping out? The volunteer opportunities below are perfect for Havurah members who would like to spend a little time making a difference on a schedule of their own choosing. To get started, call or email Rachel Pollak (503-248-4662, ext. 2 or rachel@havurahshalom.org).
Volunteer Opportunities
Document Shredding
We have a stack of documents that needs to be shredded using our office shredding machine. This can be a slow process as the machine needs to be emptied periodically and occasionally needs a break to cool down. Bring your headphones!
Check Stub and Invoice Scanning
Help keep our financial records complete by scanning check stubs and invoices! This is a job for someone who likes attention to detail, can use a copy machine scanner with some training, and doesn’t mind removing staples from paper. Discretion is needed in relation to the sensitive nature of these financial documents.
Online Filing
This job can be done from home! Once our check stubs and invoices are scanned, they go to a special email inbox. Each one needs to be saved in a SharePoint folder and properly labeled. We will train you and give you access to the online spaces. This is an essential part of our financial document retention process that can be done while watching TV or listening to podcasts. Discretion is needed in relation to the sensitive nature of these financial documents.
Sewing Window Covers
We are looking for three cloth covers that can be rolled up at the top of the glass panes set in Havurah’s interior doors. They would be secured by Velcro when not being used to cover the window. Covers can be decorative, but must also be opaque so that no one can see inside the room. Please get in touch for details about measurements.

Teshuvah is the ongoing process of Turning and Returning. Using brief, simple, playful forms: sound, movement, story, stillness—which EVERYONE can do—we'll discover and shape our own tales of transformation and renewal. Together we’ll play with a few classic Jewish tales and find our own voices, visions, ancestors, light, and revelations. This is not a performance class. No experience is required, just a willingness to be curious and a little silly. Led by Cassandra Sagan, a twice-ordained Maggid (Jewish storyteller/teacher), and a lifetime creative process/poetry/arts educator. -
