If you consider yourself a creative actor/singer who loves musical theater and trying new things, then please join us for this first ever musical theater workshop series. We are writing a musical - Freedom: The Untold Story of Moses – and want to work with a group of passionate performers to develop a physical, spiritual, and musical language for the piece. You can be a part of bringing the script to life and pick up a few tips and tricks to musical theater performance along the way! This will culminate in a staged reading performance of the first act at Havurah Shalom.
Performance dates: Sunday, April 5, 2pm and 7pm
10 spaces open to adults.

As in past years, Alte Rockers will congregate for happy hour before this annual event to honor Sara Glasgow Cogan, a member of Havurah Shalom and wife of Nathan Cogan, who was killed in a pedestrian accident. We will meet on the PSU campus at Rogue Hall, 1717 SW Park Ave, at 4:30 to eat, drink and schmooze. At about 6 pm, we will walk across the campus to see the lecture (which begins at 7) in Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom, Room 355. We have reserved 20 spots for Alte Rockers at both Rogue Hall and the lecture. We require RSVPs via the Havurah Shalom website calendar to ensure adequate space.
In her talk, Michelle Goldberg will discuss Trump in the context of the rise of authoritarianism around the globe and the role that anxiety about changing gender roles has played in this phenomenon. She will review how women have led the opposition to Trump in the United States—from the Women’s March, to Indivisible, to the House of Representatives—leading to an unprecedented gender gap in American politics, and analyze the role of newly mobilized women in the 2020 presidential race.
For additional information, please contact Ted Scheinman, Marcia Danab or Dale Schwartz.

Why did Eastern European Jewry embrace Zionism in the late 1800s? Was it inevitable that the revival of a Jewish national community in Israel would entail confrontation with the existing Palestinian Arab community and repeated wars with its Arab neighbors? We’ll address these and many other questions. Taught by Prof. Joel Beinin.
Room Aleph
This class will be taking place via Zoom only--not in person--while Coronavirus precautions remain in place. Students, please be in touch with Joel for join info.
