As the light continues to decrease, and in preparation for our Festival of Lights, we will draw from the wisdom of this season and the teachings of Hanukah as intention for this evening of chanting and meditation. While clearly different over Zoom, we will still gather in community and lift each of our voices as we draw strength from one another through the practice. Have you ever wanted to explore stories in Torah and use the writing process to personally understand the significance of Torah stories in your life? Join a small group of Havurahniks to delve into Torah using the writing process to explore and record our journey. Each evening will include a summary of that week's Torah portion and pearls from commentary. We will then begin two free-writes from prompts from the portion. All that is required is a journal. There is an optional opportunity to choose one portion to study, summarize and use to create writing prompts. Facilitated by Harriet Cooke and Jenni Besen. Harriet trained and led groups with Portland's Write Around Portland, then led an eight-year writing group on Torah. 10-person maximum.

Can you read Hebrew and the siddur? Do you understand some of the words? If so, would you like to be able to actually use the language in basic conversations with others? This class is for those of you who can already read Hebrew and have a very beginning knowledge of the language but want to expand your vocabulary in order to hold a conversation. We will spend time each week practicing new vocabulary in a fun, casual environment. There will be online homework and then weekly practice sessions led by Racheli Ross. NEW TIME Leah Shoshanah and Rabbi Benjamin will lead us in an evening of music, prayer and connection as we light the Hanukah candles together and welcome in Shabbat. We will also hear other Havurah voices reflecting on the festival’s themes of revolution and human rights. At 6:30, following the service, the Kehilla Cluster will host a meet and greet. In honor of Human Rights Shabbat, we will explore the theme of truth-telling, in Torah and within the Hanukah story, in light of the struggle for human rights and dignity for all. Torah study from 10-11, facilitated by Rabbi Benjamin, followed by a short service and Torah reading for 11-12. We'll be in Zoom Room Aleph. Hannukah Havdalah led by Andrine de la Rocha, Howard Patterson, and Diane Chaplin. End Shabbat with a fun and bright Havdalah service and then we’ll light our menorahs followed by an exciting fire/LED Poi demonstration by Chava Wolin. This event will take place in Zoom Room Aleph.
