An Intimate Afternoon with David Fuks: Short Stories and a One-Act Play from a Child of Holocaust Survivors

The postponed short story reading by Havurah member and author/playwright David Fuks will take place Sunday, July 16. Co-sponsored by Havurah, Next Generations Group, and the Oregon Jewish Museum and Holocaust Resource Center, the program will now also feature the premier reading of David’s play “For Love.”

Winner of the 2017 PEN/Faulkner award for fiction, this debut novel tells the story of Jende Jonga, a Cameroonian immigrant living in Harlem. Jende has come to the United States to provide a better life for himself, his wife, Neni, and their six-year-old son. In the fall of 2007, Jende can hardly believe his luck when he lands a job as a chauffeur for Clark Edwards, a senior executive at Lehman Brothers. Discussion led by David Newman. Nonmembers welcome.
