Purim 2018: Live the Chai Life!

Come one, come all, for a night of joy, masquerade, and retelling the story of some courageous individuals from long ago whose valor saved the Jewish People. We will interweave some chanting of the Megillah with dramatic narration and off-the-wall spieling. Get ready to make some noise as we recount the fateful events that led to the spoiling of the wicked plot of you-know-who! Followed by dancing, revelry, pomp, circumstance and L'chaiims. All are encouraged to wear costumes!!
Havurah will serve pizza, and families with last names beginning with A-L are asked to bring a vegetarian salad or side dish. Families with last names beginning with M-Z are asked to bring a vegetarian dessert. All food should be brought on plates or in containers, ready to be served, and please provide a list of ingredients if your dish is nut-free, gluten-free, and/or dairy-free.
If you're interested in learning to chant a few verses of the Megillah, please contact Rabbi Benjamin at benjamin.barnett@havurahshalom.org. If you can help with script writing, acting or music, please contact Ellen Regal at ellenregal@yahoo.com. Volunteers are needed for these important roles!
We have two tzedakah projects to choose from this year! Please either make a cash donation for Portland Homeless Family Solutions to support family homeless shelters, or bring a book for children ages 1-10 to read at a local community center. Spanish or bilingual English/Spanish books are preferred. These books do not have to be new; well-loved books will also be treasured.
Please RSVP here and include number adults and kids attending.

During the High Holy Days we read four sections of the Torah. This series of study sessions will give us an opportunity to read the texts and explore their meanings. We will look at what our teachers before us thought of the readings, as well as investigate modern commentators. We also will come up with our own thoughts and see how we can understand the texts for our lives today. Led by David Dropkin. No experience necessary. Please join us. -
