Havurah Ballot Measure Endorsements

Date Added |
One way we live Havurah’s mission to promote acts of social responsibility is through political action. Havurah’s Steering Committee has voted to take positions on the four ballot measures listed below based on the close alignment of these critical ballot measures with work happening in our Tikkun Olam work groups:
- No on Measure 105 (Sanctuary)
- Yes on Measures 102 (Housing), Metro 26-199 (Housing), and Portland 26-201 (Clean Energy)
Other measures on the ballot also need our attention. Please read your voter pamphlet and make sure to vote! Click here for more information.
While over the years we have taken positions on ballot measures, we are aware that there is not always consensus within our community. We will be clarifying our process for taking political positions over the next 18 months. If you are interested in helping to develop that process, please contact Chris Coughlin, Tikkun Olam Lead.
An Opportunity to Make a Difference: Phone Banking at Havurah, Tuesday, Oct. 23, 6:00-8:30 pm
Join us for a wonderful member-to-member opportunity: calling fellow Havurah members to "get out the vote" and discuss the four ballot measures that Havurah’s Steering Committee has taken positions on and which align with our Tikkun Olam work:
- Yes on 26-199 – Metro Regional Affordable Housing Bond Measure
- Yes on 26-201 – Portland Clean Energy Initiative
- Yes on Measure 102 – Statewide Affordable Housing Measure
- NO on Measure 105 – End Oregon’s Sanctuary Law
This is an important and fun opportunity for interested Havurah members to join together on one evening to reach out to other Havurah Members and encourage them to vote in this mid-term election. We will provide clear and brief information about each measure for callers to discuss with folks they call. We will not try to persuade anyone but to let them know that Havurah encourages folks to consider the positions mentioned above.
We will provide pizza & snacks. Remember to bring your cell phone (and charger just in case).
Please RSVP by Monday to either Michael Heumann at heumanncycle@gmail.com or Shari Raider at shari.raider@gmail.com.

As part of our annual holiday cycle, Havurah members are invited to share our own reflections on the themes and stories of the High Holiday season. In addition to prose or poetry that may be shared on the bima at High Holiday services, we are putting out a call for artistic expressions in any visual medium, including paintings, drawings and photography. We welcome your reflections on any aspect of the High Holidays experience, whether they arise from our tradition’s core concepts of teshuvah (return) or seliḥah (forgiveness), or from any other aspect of your own process of looking inward during the time leading into the holiday season. The Elul and High Holiday Gallery is a project of the High Holidays Committee and the Design Committee, led by Joan Peck and Marcia Suttenberg. -
