Celebration of reaching the El Jocote Goal
Sunday, February 28, 2016 • 19 Adar I 5776
10:00 AM - 1:00 PMThank you to all who donated their time and effort to raising an additional $20,000 for our follow-up project in partnership with Green Empowerment and Nicaraguan NGO partner Asofenix! With this additional funding, the families of El Jocote will be able to establish patio vegetable gardens, build latrines, install improved cook stoves to improve indoor air quality, and hire a member of the community to oversee the project. The villagers identified these improvements in community meetings as being the most needed.
All are invited to a celebration of this achievement on Sunday, February 28th at 10am at the home of Linda Boise. Two of our Green Empowerment partners will be there to share stories and pictures. Please RSVP via email.
Over the past several years, Havurah has had the privilege to perform several mitzvot in this community. Our first round of fundraising helped supply the village with a solar-powered water pumping system that brings water to each house. This eliminated long treks every day by the women and older girls to carry water in buckets. Several Havurah members also participated in service learning trips to the village. This project and the partnership with Green Empowerment has allowed us as a congregation to learn about the effects of global poverty and sustainable energy, and to serve in a meaningful way. These projects are making a real difference in the lives of the people of El Jocote.
Sorry, Registration has ended.
