With Buff Medb Neretin. Each week we will listen together to parts of interviews with 1) Resmaa Menakem 2) Ibram X Kendi and 3) Isabel Wilkerson.
We will doodle, scrawl, color, knit... whatever you do to occupy your hands that will have a tangible product.
Snacks... way important. Milk and cookies work, for sure.
After we are done listening and doodling, we will talk... about what you heard, how it made you feel, what it made you think of, how it may have challenged an assumption you usually make or a stereotype you apply, notes you scribbled down or line drawings you came up with. I am very interested in your points of view.
NOTE: Though the folks I have chosen are Black and speak of, predominantly, about being Black, what they have to say applies across the board for anyone who is an Other.
This event will take place on our High Holidays platform. Registration is free. We look forward to seeing you!

Led by David Kertzner. The High Holidays is both a complex and simple time for our Jewish community. At our core, we reflect on the past year, open our hearts wider, and turn with intention into the coming year -- supported and sometimes burdened with family history, community history, and our engagement with the world. Writing is one way we can move through this time and, in the process, share a part of ourselves while connecting with others in our community. This workshop is for community members to uncover their personal meaning of this year’s theme at Havurah Shalom: Nishmat Kol Ḥai - The Soul of Every Living Thing. In the first two sessions, we will write in response to prompts designed to reflect on aspects of the High Holidays. In the third session, writers will share and give feedback in smaller groups. Participants might decide to produce a mini-drash that may be selected to be read at one of the High Holiday services.

Traditionally, Jews gather on the Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah to initiate the process of Seliḥot, “Forgiveness,” in preparation for the Ten Days of Teshuvah (“Returning/Repentance”). This year, Rabbi Benjamin and Karen St. Clair will interweave traditional Seliḥot prayers, contemplative music and reflection, as well as somatic meditation, in order to access the compassion and openness we need as we enter further into this season of Return.
This event will take place on our High Holidays platform. Registration is free. We look forward to seeing you!
