This will be a kick-off Zoom meeting to discuss the Jan. 12 lecture and decide how we want to structure our reading and further discussion of the book Becoming Rooted, to culminate in time for Passover and Earth Day. An in-depth, word-by-word study of selected prayers, with a special focus on the Shema and Amidah. We build a vocabulary of words commonly used in Jewish prayer in order to uncover both ancient and modern understandings of the relationships between humans, God, and the rest of nature, how we call forth our best human selves, give and receive love, and struggle with an imperfect world. We’ll gather in community for an evening of contemplative practice, chanting interspersed with silence, guided by teachings from the tradition. Everyone is welcome. While most people will participate via Zoom, a small group will gather in the sanctuary to build energy together.
