At our last meeting, we decided that our first advocacy campaign would be in support of Betty McCollum’s bill “Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act." We will be discussing how Havurah can help promote this important legislation and improve its chance of becoming law. We will also be voting on a charter to present to the Steering Committee. Israel/Palestine Committee Planning Meeting

The Israel/Palestine Committee is holding a planning meeting to discuss possible future undertakings, including two Elul proposals, developing plans for a report-back from recent Havurah members' Israel/Palestine visits, considering the possibility of hosting a discussion of the history and background of the McCollum bill that Havurah's Palestinian justice group is likely to support, and other possible Fall activities. Open to all Havurah members.

Book Group: Children of the Stone by Sandy Tolan

The Lemon Tree, tells the story of Ramzi Aburedwan, a boy from a Palestinian refugee camp who participated in the 1st Intifada.
Children of the Stone chronicles Ramzi's journey—from stone thrower to music student to school founder—and shows how through his love of music he created something lasting and beautiful in the midst of the violence of the Occupation.
