Portland Homeless Family Solutions (PHFS), Goose Hollow Shelter Direct Service Project - A new temporary winter shelter is opening at Congregation Beth Israel (CBI) Dec. 11, 2017, closing April 30, 2018. PHFS will operate it. The shelter will start with only adult volunteers (18 years and older). We will continue our Adopt-a-NIght at Goose Hollow as well as volunteer at the temporary winter shelter. If interested in volunteering at either Goose Hollow or the winter shelter, an hour-long orientation is required. Goose Hollow Orientation: Dec. 6, at 5:00 pm, at 1838 SW Jefferson. Writing a drash is one of the most important parts of B’nai Mitzvah preparation. During this workshop, students with dates set for their B’nai Mitzvah will study a passage of Torah, discover commentary, pose an interesting question, and relate it to contemporary context. This workshop will be led by Rabbi Benjamin.
