Jenn Louis will teach you about the rich and savory collection of Israeli food, how it came to be and what are some of her favorites. The Shmita year has ancient teachings to release debts and care for each other and the earth. Please join Marianna Grossman and Harriet Cooke as we spring from these Torah teachings into understanding our modern economy and money systems. How we can participate in transforming our economic system and our own financial lives in a way that upholds our core Shmita values? Explore principles of regenerative economics that can work for people and for the planet. No previous economic understanding is required.

In this cohort we will engage with Jewish spiritual practice in the name of building a more just and loving world. Our primary lens will be Mussar, an approach to living centered around middot, “soul traits.” In trusted community, we will explore middot vital to justice-seeking and examine how they manifest in our relationships and actions. Facilitated by Rabbi Benjamin We gather in community for an evening of contemplative practice, chanting interspersed with silence, guided by teachings from the tradition. Everyone is welcome, no experience or musical ability required. Online participation will take place in Zoom Room Bet.  While most people will participate via zoom, a small group will gather in the sanctuary to build energy together. An in-depth, word-by-word study of selected prayers, with a special focus on the Shema and Amidah. We build a vocabulary of words commonly used in Jewish prayer in order to uncover both ancient and modern understandings of the relationships between humans, God, and the rest of nature, how we call forth our best human selves, give and receive love, and struggle with an imperfect world.
