Come sing-a-long with members of the Havurah Music Makers Collective, as we light candles and gaze at the fully lit menorah for the 8th night of Chanukah, also known as “Zos Chanukah.” We will share an array of Chanukah-themed music to help bring light into our homes and hearts, as the days grow shorter and winter approaches. This event will take place in Room Aleph.

The Song Circle is based on a program designed by Joey Weisenberg and the Rising Song Institute focusing on communal songs and niggunim, wordless melodies. The group is open to all who wish to learn, share music, and grow their personal leadership techniques. We will meet in person at Havurah and on Zoom in Zoom Room Dalet.

We gather to find some moments of quiet and shalom. Led by Rabbi Benjamin, Adela Basayne, Deborah Eisenbach-Budner, Nancy Becker, or Ria de Neeve. In this cohort we will engage with Jewish spiritual practice in the name of building a more just and loving world. Our primary lens will be Mussar, an approach to living centered around middot, “soul traits.” In trusted community, we will explore middot vital to justice-seeking and examine how they manifest in our relationships and actions. Havurah Ambassador Training Tuesday, Dec. 7, 7 pm, Zoom Room People love Havurah! Curious community members looking to connect frequently send us inquiries about who we are and what membership is like. These conversations are interesting and fun to have, with no "selling" involved--just an opportunity to share what we like and know about Havurah. If you would like to help staff by chatting with folks who contact us with general inquiries, please RSVP for a training session. At the session, you will learn about what questions tend to be asked and how to answer them, where to refer folks for questions you can't answer, and about Havurah's process for becoming a new member. If you decide to volunteer in this way, Havurah staff will support you all the way!

An in-depth, word-by-word study of selected prayers, with a special focus on the Shema and Amidah. We build a vocabulary of words commonly used in Jewish prayer in order to uncover both ancient and modern understandings of the relationships between humans, God, and the rest of nature, how we call forth our best human selves, give and receive love, and struggle with an imperfect world. On Tuesday, November 9, Havurah Steering unanimously approved the charter for the new Racial Justice Committee. The groundwork for this new committee has been in the works for several months and has involved the input from many Havurah members. The purpose of the Racial Justice Committee is to provide a container within Havurah to educate ourselves and to seek opportunities to work toward racial justice. Two workgroups have convened focusing on Social Justice Advocacy and Individual Education/Reckoning. Please join us for the first official meeting of this new committee!
